The Wonderful World Of Tim Burton | Ed Wood (1994)
Ed Wood (1994)
Making a biopic of the most notoriously kitsch of B-movie filmmakers was a challenge; attempting to do it in black and white had studios running for the hills. But Burton was intent that the monochrome approach was "right for the material and the movie." The story itself adeptly captured the essence of the madcap cult director, with some tweaking of the facts: "It's not like a completely hardcore realistic biopic," Burton stresses. "In doing a biopic you can't help but get inside the person's spirit a little bit, so for me, some of the film is trying to be through Ed a little bit. So it's got an overly optimistic quality to it."
