Who Should Play The Flash?
We assess the potential Flash Barries
News that Greg Berlanti is close to directing The Flash might mean that the world's fastest man is finally crawling out of development hell. Given the history of the project, we won't hold our breath, but that doesn't stop us offering up some potential casting suggestions. Oh, please note: we're using the Barry Allen Flash as our model and we've purposefully left Taylor Lautner off the list because he's busy being cast in everything else...

Who Should Play The Flash?
Scott Porter

Fast Choice: He proved his acting worth in the first couple of seasons of TV's Friday Night Lights, he's got plenty of film experience to boot and he can pull off the lithe form needed for The Flash. Oh, and he was in Speed Racer, so WB owes him a favour.

Speed Bump: Does he have the required spark to play a quirkier hero like Barry Allen? He always comes off as a little more straight arrow, though given Allen's police background, that might not be a big problem.

Neil Patrick Harris would be great as the flash. He has the kind of charm that would fit the charecter spot on. I dont think that him being openly gay would make any diffence. He can still pull off Barney in HIMYM. Read More

2 Flash

I think that David Anders would be pretty good for the role. He looks a little like Neil Patrick, but you would take him a more seroiusly. But if it was NPH it would be legend... wait for it... Read More

If it's Barry we're talking (although I'm a firm believer that the film version should be Wally West) I'd go for Josh Duhamel, although I think the single most brilliant piece of alternative casting is your suggestion of Neil Patrick Harris - He'd be great as Barry!! Also like the idea of Helo from BSG. However, if it was the WW version of the Flash, then Ryan Reynolds would still be my No 1 casting choice, although Seann William Scott could be interesting, and so could Channing Tatum.... Read More

In the case of NPH I suspect that unfortunately a major speed bump, for the studio, would be the fact that he's openly gay now. Read More

Josh Lucas seems to be more suitable for Jay Garrick Neil Patrick Harris has voiced The Flash in the Justice League: New Frontier animated feature, but I think he would be awesome as Wally West. Read More

8 Barry Allen or Wally West?
Posted on Saturday March 6, 2010, 04:00 by wgfuzzydunlop1
Barry - Fassbender. Wally - NPH. And I agree with Edward Nygma, they have to reprise that theme tune! Read More

9 michael rosenbaum?
Posted on Saturday March 6, 2010, 00:30 by SGC_51
What about Michael Rosenbaum? I know he's known as Lex Luthor from Smallville but he voiced The Flash in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons and he did a pretty good job and I think he would look the part. Thoughts? Read More

10 Ben Foster???

Ben Foster has done the superhero role before in X3 . . . Read More

11 Tahmoh Penikett would be...

a nice fit. "Helo" from BSG, he could pull that off. Totally agree with that suggestion! Read More

I actually agree that NPH is quite a good Idea. Ben Foster would be pretty good if he could play less intense than every other character Ive seen hiim play. Michael Fassbender is also quite a good idea but all of the rest, nah. Read More

13 A "quirkier hero"? Barry Allen is as straight arrow as they come

If you want a quirkier Flash, you have to go with Wally West. Read More

Fassbender sounds like the most plausible choice. No one involved in any way shape or form with Twilight should be considered, for any superhero movie, ever. Whoever they pick I just hope they get Danny Elfman to do his old score from the TV series, it was awesome! ;-) Read More

15 Another suggestion....
Posted on Friday March 5, 2010, 00:00 by Ramirez
The bloke who was Helo in Battle star Galactica, Tahmoh Penikett - not sure why we haven't seen any breakouts form that series into films yet - but this would be a good start. Read More

16 Go for Foster!

You guys had it with Ben Foster! the guy is hugely underrated and deserves to be in the big (justice) league... Read More

17 But Green Lantern?
Posted on Thursday March 4, 2010, 21:41 by jameshrave
I really hope for Michael Fassbender. Although I think he would have fitted the role of Green Lantern more, much more so than Ryan Reynolds at least, for me Fassbender looks exactly like the comic book, especially in the nose oddly enough. Read More

18 David Anders

21 Some great choices
Posted on Thursday March 4, 2010, 16:58 by Noelg25
I think Ben Foster could do the trick. But Sooty616 hits the nail with David Anders from Heroes. Definitely has the looks, wit, charm and everything possible for Barry Allen/The Flash. I do also like the mention of Justin Hartley but this will boil down to his Green Arrow status on Smallville and also Warners and DC Ent not allowing that to happen. Now Fassbender I would love to see as the Scarlet Speedster. He was awesome in Inglorious Basterds. :D Read More

22 Ryan renolds or Sean William Scott
Posted on Thursday March 4, 2010, 16:14 by TheHazman
I think either of these would be perfect for wally west. (By the way this film needs to be about Wally west. He is a far more enteraining and intersting character than Barry Allen) Ryan reynolds defiantly has the physique and the quick wit! Its a real shame he is playing the Green Lantern because it will propbably mean he cant play the flash! Read More

25 Justin Hartley

Well why the hell not - he's already been Aquaman and Green Arrow, screw it. Have him go for Ryan Reynolds' "I'm trying to play every single superhero ever" crown and give him this. Plus he's blonde and quite funny (little smug, but so what, you'd be smug if you were Flash). Read More

26 Fassbender

Inspired choice. Never thought of him for such a role before, but now I can't think of anyone better. Read More

27 Sean William Scott
Posted on Thursday March 4, 2010, 13:36 by Driveshaft Fan
The guy would be perfect, can't believe you didn't include him!! He's got the looks, the charm, the humor & he has the ability to get seriously ripped!! Ryan Reynolds would prob be my first choice but he can't have a monopoly on all heroes so give Stiffler a chance!! Read More

think NPH is an inspired choice, was good in justice league film, and would be a good choice for the Wally West version. Personally i think the wally west version is better cos hes got that comedic edge but is serious when it counts. fassbender could be good, maybe too old, need to stay youngish. Read More

30 Ben Foster
Posted on Thursday March 4, 2010, 12:19 by blindfold
Dear Empire ---- Ben Foster was in X-Men 3 as Angel. NP Harris already played the Flash (well the voice anyway in the animated Justice League). Serously who does your research? They need to dig deeper. Read More

David Anders who played Adam Monroe in Heroes would be a perfect fit for the role. He's got the image and charisma required plus he is a dab hand at the old action sequences from being on the show. Would work for less but the role may prove to big for him. Still he will be aching to stretch his legs after being holed up in that coffin so long Read More
