Who Could Direct Breaking Dawn?
We assess the most interesting choices for the fourth Twilight film...
According to Entertainment Weekly, the producers of the fourth (and possibly fifth, if it spreads across two scripts) Twilight film are aiming at well-known, if unusual, choices as they continue the search for a director. Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon have all been approached, and while we doubt any of them will say yes, here are our even more left-field suggestions...

Note: Spoilers for the book follow. But if you've read it, you're OK; and if you haven't read it, you probably don't care.

Who Could Direct Breaking Dawn?
Brett Ratner's Breaking Dawn

Love him or hate him, Ratner isn't afraid of a challenge (stepping into Bryan Singer's successful X-Men franchise was brave) and The Last Stand also proved he can handle effects, which he'll need in order to tackle some of the (spoiler alert if you've never read the book) birth scenes and the strange properties of Renesmee, daughter of Edward and Bella. It would also be a product placement agent's wet dream, with Pampers no doubt securing a deal to feature prominently. Bonus: Chris Tucker as a screechy vampire. "Aw, HELL no! You did NOT just give birth to an immortal child!"

Am I right in saying the Empire is a film magazine? Am I right in saying that the film adaptations of the hugely popular Twilight Saga have been box Office hits? Am I also right in saying that Empire has a responsibility to cater to all types of film fan? I think you'll find the answer is yes to all of the above! My point is that we can't all like the same things....I love film....I have an eclectic taste and love many films that would gain the approval of the haters posting here. I also love the twilight films, I love them for what they are because they entertain me! I, as a long time fan of Empire, would like to be able to read about them in my favourite film magazine (and their website!) There are types are films that I don't like which are covered by Empire and do you guys know what I do.....? I just dont read those particular features! Anyway, Im not so fussed about who directs it as long as they dont bring it out in 3d! Read More

4 Why do you care so much?

Is Empire now panning to the teenage girl market? This Twilight stuff is completely inconsistent with the rest of your content, and the whole product suffers as a result. Your obsession with this Twilight fad has damaged the Empire brand considerably. You guys were never about the lowest common denominator, and now it is all I associate you with. Read More

I mildly tolerated the first movie but without a doubt New Moon was the most miserably dull movie I have watched in years. Its literally a love story between the two most boring and undeserving characters in the history of modern cinema. I actually would rather someone punched me in the face repeatedly than have to sit through one these films again in future. Read More

Ratner's a hack. He'd fit in with the low-brow, vacuous fare that is the Twilight machine. He's the Kurosawa of the Twilight generation. Read More

10 Brett Ratner?
Posted on Thursday March 18, 2010, 21:27 by freemantle_uk
What's with Empire keeping recommending Brett fucking Ratner? Empire suggested him as a possible director for the Spiderman reboot and keep defending his X-Men film. He is no more then a glorified cameraman who offers no depth or character development and little story: he ruined X-Men, turning it from very good sci-fi with action in to a dumb wham-blam action film. He keep offering us rubbish, floggish the dead horse that is Rush Hour and shows a film school education is no substitute for talent. I can picture Ratner keeping that Twilight is beneath him, whilst the Twi-Hards (who are most possibly right) would think Ratner isn't good enjoy. I'm not a Twilight fan but I don't have an outright hatred like some nutcases on the internet do. I thought the first one was okay, but should have focused more on the vampire murderers to give the film more a drive and well, whilst I like Catherine Hardwicke she wasn't confident with the action sequence. The Twilight producers should just hireRead More

Your Cronenberg / Viggo crack was especially classic! Apart from which, i think you've hit the nail on the head right here. All Cronenberg's films look at conception, infection, growth and horror. Perfect! He's even tackled tragic romance more than once. ...he just needs to take his hands out of Viggo's pants and it's a done! Read More
