After failed attempts to bring the book to screen by the likes of Terry Gilliam and Paul Greengrass, Zach Snyder is currently directing a Watchmen movie in Vancouver, from a script by Alex Tse, and is regularly updating his online blog, which you can see here.

Snyder's promised to stay very faithful to the source material and is keeping the film set in 1985, rather than updating it to the modern day. He has, however, reduced the ages of the main characters a little, with most of his cast around the age of 30. This is probably because nobody likes seeing wobbly old people in tights.

If you head to the 'War Room' post on the site, here, and take a look at that second picture down, you can get a blurry, but decent look at the character designs behind Snyder (try squinting, turning your head to one side, looking through the bottom of a glass - whatever works for you). They look very much in keeping with the comic book, but with the characters maybe buffed up a little from the book.
