This is a comic book read by a character within the Watchmen comic book - told you it was clever - and a fan favourite. Black Freighter is a very very dark chronicle of a man stranded on a desert island and his attempts to return home to his family on a raft made of corpses to warn of the impending attack of a band of pirates. But as he spends more time alone and grows increasingly desperate, he becomes madder than a bag of drunken monkeys.

Though The Black Freighter has an echo of the events in Watchmen, it won't actually appear in the movie. However, Zach Snyder has been given money by Warner Bros to produce a version of the comic book for the DVD release. While casting isn't confirmed, there have been persistent rumours that Gerard Butler could play the mental sailor.
