Bella Swan
Following the divorce of her parents, Bella grew up with her mother Renee in sunny Phoenix, Arizona, where she was the responsible one for her flighty parent. When Renee remarries, to a professional baseball player called Phil, Bella self-sacrificingly volunteers to move in with her father Charlie, to allow her mother the freedom to travel with Phil around the circuit. That's how Bella arrives in the rainy town of Forks, Washington.
There, she begins to make friends with the local teens, but becomes fascinated with Edward Cullen, a mysterious boy in school who seems to dislike her intensely. Bella has a tendency to doubt herself, criticise herself and generally mope, making her occasionally annoying but rather realistic.
