Twilight FAQ: Part 2

But Bella smells extra-specially good to Edward?
Yup, she's described as his "cantante" (one whose blood sings) by a rather pretentious Italian vampire, making her almost impossible for even a confirmed vegetarian like him to resist. So to continue the veggie metaphor, she smells like perfectly-cooked bacon when you've got a hangover.
And these special powers - why doesn't everyone have them?
The theory in the books is that abilities that you have in life are magnified as a vampire. So Carlisle's compassion was increased to the point that he invented this vegetarianism; Alice's premonitions became stronger and clearer; Edward's mind-reading got better. Not everyone's special talents are so obvious: the theory is that Esme's ability is the power to "love passionately". Which is nice an' all, but not terribly cool.
So are there just vampires in this world, or other supernatural beasties that go bump in the night as well?
That would be telling. You'll have to read the books...
