The Hollywood pitch for this bestselling series from author Stephenie Meyer probably ran along the lines of, "It's Interview with the Vampire meets The O.C.!" And if you replace the O.C.'s blue skies with the rain-sodden ones of northern Washington State, you're not far off. The short version of the plot is: teen and vampire fall in love. Complications ensue. The long version involves plenty of teenage (and vampire) angst, a certain amount of mortal peril and lots and lots of high school traumas.
But for your delectation, and so you can convince your 14 year-old cousin that you're totally in the know, we present you with this handy guide to who's who in the world of Twilight.
A word of warning: while we've avoided spoilers, some of the details of character back story are revealed in the second, third and fourth book but are nevertheless included here. They won't spoil the plot, but may not be familiar. So if you're really paranoid about spoilers, you might want to stick to Edward and Bella and leave aside the others.
