Name: Optimus Prime
Position/Function: Autobot Leader
Bio: Prime is the boss. The Don. The Proctector. The Red One. Even those who have only had the most fleeting of encounters with Cybertronian mythology know that Optimus Prime is a key figure in the Transformers universe. His ceaseless protection of his fellow Autobots and the humans that assist them on earth, in many ways make Prime the ultimate Transformer - noble, selfless and…a truck! His endless battles with his nemesis Megatron, provided some of the most exciting moments of the original generation of Transformers stories, not least, Optimus' death at the hands of the Decepticons in the 1986 feature-length movie. However, he's set to return in rather grand fashion and he'll no doubt be one of the leading lights in next year's big screen come back.
Transfact: In May, 2001 a U.S. Army Ohio National Guard firefighter had his name legally changed to Optimus Prime. Apparently, the Autobot figurehead became something of a father figure during his childhood, and now 'Optimus Prime' appears on on his military ID, driver's license and uniform. Rumours that the man could turn into a truck proved annoyingly false.
