Rocky Balboa Vs. Apollo Creed Rocky (1976) When he wrote this script, Sly Stallone was Rocky Balboa: a no-hoper given a million-to-one shot to live out his dream. For 'The Italian Stallion', the opponent was Apollo Creed; for Stallone, the world, Hollywood, himself. While hardly a model of realism, the climactic bout here, stripped of the sequels' excess, is an explosive mix of melodrama and measure. Bill Conti's score practically wills you to drag a beaten Rocky to his feet, and still knocks lumps into many grown men's throats. Yo, Adrian - he did it. |
