Lagaan (2001)
A film featuring a cricket match that lasts longer than many features doesn't sound enticing, but before you can explain 'LBW', the impoverished 19th century Indian villagers unite against the evil, moustache-twirling Raj in an epic match for huge stakes: three years tax-free if they win, triple payments if they lose. Not even a Freddie Flintoff night out can compete with Lagaan's lavish song-and-dance numbers. Jolly good show.
