Breaking Away (1979)
Speaking Italian and listening to opera is as close as Indiana biker Dave Stoller gets to the Italian cycling greats he idolises - until the legendary Cinzano team comes to race in his state. Dave's excitement at taking on his heroes is rendered in a joyous, Rossini-scored sequence, as he draws level before the affronted Cinzanos get revenge, slipping a pump into his spokes. It's a coming-of-age with a bump, though nothing keeps Dave out of the saddle for long.
