Kane Hodder | Kane Hodder in Jason X
PICTURED Kane Hodder in Jason X

Kane Hodder
Appeared in: Jason X, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

The only actor to play Jason in more than one film, Kane Hodder is seen by die-hard Friday The 13th fans as the greatest Jason of them all - even better than the guy who palled around with the Argonauts, even more terrifying than Jason Koumas, and even deadlier than Jason Solomons. Hodder started off with the godawful part 7, The New Blood, carried on lopping off heads in the even worse part VIII, Jason Takes Manhattan, on into the quite fun actually part 9, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (in which he also played Freddy Krueger's hand), and the extraordinarily awful Jason X. In retrospect, given that Hodder - who's built like the proverbial brick shithouse - appeared in three of the worst films in the series, it's surprising that fans kicked up such a stink when he was replaced for Freddy Vs Jason.

What happened next?
We've ruined it already. Hodder was replaced in the role for Freddy Vs Jason. But, unlike other incumbents, he didn't mope about losing the mask. Instead, the 53 year-old threw himself into a thriving career, filled with stuntwork and actual, proper, acting gigs, mainly in low-rent horror movies. But Hodder has popped up in the likes of Wishmaster, Best Of The Best 2 (as Backdoor Man), 2001 Maniacs (as a guy called Jason) and Hack!, as, erm, First Victim. OK, maybe we said 'thriving' a little prematurely...

Probably be quite boring but due to the complete Jason experience being the sum of all it's parts - mother's killings, pillow case, hockey mask, supernatural aspects - I would have loved to have seen a film which contained the finest moments from a frankly torrid franchise.   But that's just me.  Read More

L: steveohim i am a huge friday the 13th fan, went to see the new one last night and although good,im thinking the writters just didnt watch any of the originals.firstly jason does not run in any of the movies execpt briefly in part 3,he did more running in this one than lingford christie, secondly jason does not keep people hostage he basically kills whoever he meets there and then.and thirdly jason does not live in a nice little log cabin.i like to think of him as living in the lake.you dont see where he goes in any of the previous movies.this one is like the voorhees version of cribs for fucks sake.i dont think the ppl behind this movie done there research sp; What does it matter what Jason did in the originals? A remake needs to do things its own way to have any identity. Besides, Jason ran in parts 2, 3 and 4, before he became supernatural.   Good article. I was never that much of a Kane Hodder fan anyway, much preferred his earlier incarnations. Read More

Agreed. I also really rate Freddy Vs Jason. It's a shame the writers of FvJ didn't show the same imagination and flair for the rubbish Jason reboot. Read More

Also lets not forget that upon it's cinematic release Empire's Kim Newman gave Jason X a (fully deserved in my opinion) 4 Stars saying: "Wittily scripted, smartly directed and well-played by an unfamiliar cast, this is a real treat for all those who have suffered through the story so far." How anyone can say it's worse than 7,8 or 9 is beyond me. It's the only one of them all that I can watch with friends, or more than once at all for that matter! Read More

7 Extraordinarily awful?

Jason X was the best of the Friday 13th movies because it actually managed to breath some life into a pretty dead franchise. Read More
