The (Movie) Rules of Journalism | The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) The (Movie) Rules of Journalism
The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

The Lesson: Never bet your Pulitzer on it.
The Publication: The Manhattan Argus
The Editor: Chief (John Mahoney).
The Star Reporter: Amy Archer (Jennifer Jason Leigh).
The Scoop: The truth about business wunderkind Norville Barnes.

In this Coen Brothers comedy (co-written by Sam Raimi, dontcha know...), the founder and president of the titular mass corporation unexpectedly commits suicide - leaving company director Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman) with no reasonable choice but to temporarily depress the stock price of the company by hiring an idiot to run it (to pave the way for a cut-price coup). Cue a sudden promotion for mailroom clerk Norville Barnes, whose zany inventions actually have the reverse affect on Hudsucker's fortunes. Sensing a story, journalist Amy Archer disguises herself a secretary, feigns an entire back story and even gets romantically involved with Norville in pursuit of her article.

The real reason why Hearst tried to ban the movie. Welles fiendishly prolonged his agony by not revealing the scoop until the last minute. Hearst must have been profoundly relieved. Read More

2 Pure Gonzo Journalism

Where the hell is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!? It's by far the most true to life account of journalism in movie history and doesn't even make the top 10. Poor. Read More
