Norville Barnes | Tim Robbins in the Hudsucker Proxy
Norville Barnes
Hudsucker Proxy

Brainchild Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins) is so nave that his creative genius goes completely unnoticed by cigar-munching Hudsucker CEO Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman). Norville's paper-scrap design may look suspiciously like a circular doodle to untrained eyes, but it's the key to hip gyrations for all the nation, and his passport to fame and fortune.

Greatest invention: The hula hoop y'know, for kids!

Blade Runner's Eldon Tyrell, and the inventor in Metropolis. I also have a soft spot for Robin William's character in Toys (but then I'm weird). And what about the Fisher Stevens in Short Circuit? Or Joe Morton at Skynet? Alright, alright - there's a clear robotics theme here. i'm just going to retreat into the background where I belong! Read More

Barnes Wallace? Granted he was a real person but dammit if his bouncing bomb wasn't inspiring stuff in The Dam Busters. And clearly the two guys in Weird Science. If they can make Kelly LeBrock using an Amstrad, then kudos. Read More
