Which Star Has Played A Superhero Most Often?
We look at the actors most associated with comic-book hero roles…

submit to reddit

By the time that X-Men: Days Of Future Past hits screens next year, Hugh Jackman will have played Wolverine seven times on the big screen. So how does that compare to his similarly costumed avengers in other films? We counted up the films already released as well as contracts signed (Henry Cavill is not, at the time of writing, officially locked in for the Man Of Steel sequel) and digested the lot into this easy-to-read format…

1 Actor/actress to star in the most comic book movies
And the winner is.... Chris Evans with 8, reading your comments you are right there are a lot of missing movies. I've put down all those I can remember and I've added those in comic book movies, Evans may have the most but the actor playing the same character the most is Jackman with wolverine. Evans 8 Jackman 7 Jackson/Romjin 6 Willis/Stewart/Berrie/Downey Jr 5 Johannson/Clark/Elba/Reynolds 4 JD Morgan/Cage/Alba/Perlman/Portman/Stevenson 3 Logue/Weaving/Elloit/Routh/Housten/Eckhart/Rourke 2 the most impressive, that being the ones who have did different characters from different books and publishers are Ryan Reynolds and Bruce Willis, 5 for Willis with 4 different books and publishers and 4 for Reynolds with 3 different publishers. There are some missing from my list too Fassbinder and McKellan both played magneto in the Xmen films and Fassbinder was in Jonah Hex too. Interestingly JD Morgan has done 3 different movies but all DC comics movies. Below is my list done frMore

2 Missing actors
I think this would be more interesting of it showed actor who have played multiple superheroes, rather than how many times they have played one hero. even in that category, some of the exclusions are weird. Ryan reynolds has played three different major comics studio characters- Hannibal king, Deadpool, and Green Lantern. Chris Evans has played Captain America, Human Torch, and was in the Losers and Scott Pilgrim (that has to be some kind of record for number of comic book movies) Henry Cavill makes the list for playing superman once, but Brandon Routh is left off after playing Superman, Dylan Dog, appearing in Scott Pilgrim, and should get an honorable mention for voice work on the Batman. 7 RE:
Seems kind of daft to count films that haven't been made yet - who knows what will happen between then and now. Also agree that it's a pity Chris Evans or other actors who have played more than one superhero haven't been recognised - perhaps the graphic was too fiddly for that. Still, I guess it got people commenting which is probably what you want. More

There is indeed a third blade movie: blade trinity anyone with Ryan reynolds? Of course this list is not complete, it would be a very long list. This is a list of the most relevant super heroes at this point. Not quite sure what the pantom is doing there, really? More

9 chill!
Some of you take this shit far too seriously! Some of you can't even read the question properly. The question was not which superhero has been played by different actors. And some of you can't count. There are 3 Blade films! Sheesh! More

13 An awful feature!!
What is the point of doing a feature like this if you are just randomly going to include actors and characters and exclude others. The list of characters/actors missing is bigger than the actual list included in the feature: Batman: Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney... Spiderman: Every actor who has played spiderman X-Men: All the other X-men apart from Wolverine Green Lantern: This would have been interesting as Ryan Renolds as played GL and also Deadpool Avengers: Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Thor.... Daredevil, Electra ... Green Hornet Fantastic Four The Punisher I could go on but im bored now! More

14 TV Shows?
Surely Dean Cain or the lad from Smallville has a few credits to their names. Adam West or Burt Ward. Seems half assed this. Wish I'd not wasted my time. Could have been so much better. My guess is you just wanted to put the Swamp Thing in there. That just opens a whole heap of Troma/Jay and Silent Bob etc elements. More

15 Hmm
What a strange, strange feature! Where the hell is Spiderman? Surely Hulk is more of a superhero than Nick bloody Fury! Why arent all of the X-Men characters included? They are all superheros arent they? Where is Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney! They all played Batman didnt they!? The more I think about this I think it could be the worst Empire feature ever! :) More

17 Chris Evans
Yep - surprised Chris Evans didn't get an honourable mention for playing two different iconic marvel characters.. Especially with Billy Zane getting a mention for a paltry one box office bomb - No offence Mr. Zane - I liked it!! More

... does his character in 'Push' count as a superhero too (wasn't there a comic prequel released at the time)? More

20 Highest number of individual characters goes to:
Jason Flemyng (Stardust, XMFC, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell & Kickass). Chris Evans joins him once Snowpiercer comes out. (Cap, Fantastic Four, Scott Pilgrim, Losers) Closely followed by Ryan Reynolds with 4. More
