Simon Pegg is Scotty
Perhaps the most contentious bit of casting, Simon Pegg's appointment as Scotty clearly sets the engineer up as the film's comic relief (which James Doohan was in the original series, albeit often unintentionally). Fans may worry what this says about the tone of the movie, but Pegg is a solid actor and in JJ we shall have to trust.
