WHAT'S RUMOURED

Back when Michael Arndt was writing the script, it was said that the treatment would “bring the saga of the Skywalkers, the Force-imbued family comprising Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and twins Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa, to a close in a new trilogy. The story is said to focus on a new generation of heroes” but the original trio of Han, Luke and Leia would all appear.

Reports have recently emerged that Adam Driver has been cast as a Darth Vader-style baddie in the film (in addition to the rumoured talks mentioned below), but unsurprisingly neither the actor nor the studio has confirmed those reports.

The open casting call that took place around the UK last year listed the following character types. It’s not clear if these will all be leading roles, but we could see:

  • Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.
  • Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.
  • A late twentysomething male, fit, handsome and confident.
  • Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.
  • A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.
  • Forty something male, fit, military type.
  • Thirtysomething male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.

1 RE:
L: crypticmirror We also know: There will be a lot of lens flare, because it is Abrams. Most of the interior shots will be in a white set, because it is Abrams. There will be a red ball of some sort, because it is Abrams. The plot, whatever it ends up being, will be very thin with dialogue included only to move the scene towards the next explosion/pointless fight, because it is Abrams. Female characters will be included only to titillate male viewers, because it is Abrams. A huge chunk of the potential viewership will give the movies a miss, because the only person worse than George Lucas at handling science fiction is...yes you guessed it...JJ Abrams. Some people will hope it is a success though, because they hope that it might mean that the next Star TREK movie won't have Abrams. Their hopes will be in vain, because....Abrams. a pretentious post. I'm sure you're great fun at parties. More

"The film will also use real locations rather than rely on the heavy green-screen of the Prequels." I like this. More
