9 Star Wars Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spin-Off | Darth Maul
Darth Maul

How do you solve a problem like a bisected Sith apprentice? Lightsabered in twain by a backflipping Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace, he falls to his doom down a reactor chasm… or does he? According to the expanded Star Wars universe, no he doesn’t – but there isn’t a definitive explanation as to how he makes it out alive.

The Clone Wars TV series has him ending up on a junk planet called Lotho Minor where he’s turned into a cyborg with, um, spider-like legs. Brought back to his adopted home planet of Dathomir, Nightsister Witch leader Mother Talzin – don’t ask – rids him off his memory loss and general madness, installs a couple of regular robot legs and encourages the double-ended lightsaber swinger to revenge Obi-Wan up a notch.

Star Wars Tales 9 solves Maul’s resurrection riddle with a cult that essentially magics him back to life, whereas Star Wars Tales #17 has a post Return Of The Jedi Luke fight a "solid state hologram" Maul after a crazy scientist uses the tattooed martial artisan’s brain for nefarious purposes. Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars: Visionaries, meanwhile, shows Maul rebuilding himself using cybernetics before getting blastered by Owen Lars on Tattooine whilst fighting a post-Revenge Of The Sith Obi-Wan.

If Darth Maul is given his own feature film, the death-explanation will be the biggest stumbling block. The other option is an origins movie, where those tattoos could either be Sith-based or something to do with the aforementioned (and distinctly evil) Nightsisters. Whatever happens, Peter Serafinowicz has to voice him, ideally with a new Brian Butterfield lilt to amp up the terror.

Its criminal that Qui-Gon Jinn doesn't get a mention. His backstory is the one I want the most (well, his & Darth maul). And seriously, Porkins? Admiral Akbar? There are LOADS of minor Jedi characters who deserve spinoff more then them! And what about Jango Fett? More

2 Jabba Ranks
why not a Sopranos style show about the Hutt having issues with his chosen life of crime. It would all be in Huttese subtitles tho, which might lose some viewers. More

3 What? Where's Emperor Palpatine?!!
The baddest guy in the Star Wars universe must surely merit a comprehensive backstory. Especially after his story in Ep.III to Anakin about Darth Plaagus which we assume was Palpatine's Master it would be a travesty not to explore how this character became so evil and so powerful. Although, as with many of the original Star Wars characters who would play him as well as Ian McDiarmid? But it's still a story I'd love to see! More

4 RE: 7 Star Wars Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spin-Off
Well a Wedge Antilles movie is the obvious one - set before Episode IV... And the first thing that came to me: The Aunt Beru Movie. She seemed very cute in the prequels, and wiser than Uncle Owen in IV. More

5 RE:
I think he should be recast as a song and dance man, with a backing band made up of Gamorrean Guards! More

6 Biggs
Biggs would definitely be worth exploring. In Lucas's own novelisation of Star Wars, he is a massive influence on Luke's desire to leave the farmstead and get a life. He would give us an insight into how the Rebellion actually operated, since he originally joined the Imperial academy (presumably what was once the Republic academy) then got pulled into the Rebellion. Speaking of characters from the Death Star attack, there's also Red Leader Garven Dreis, who even gets his own leitmotif in the music when he crashes and burns. He was a real Clone Wars hero apparently. At this rate we'll have a couple of Star Wars movies a year for the next 300 years! More

If they are going to do one spin off they should do Splinter of a minds eye. best book they did in the star wars universe. but lets face it they are going to do as many as they can get away with. More

Darth Maul was criminally wasted by George Lucas at the end of The Phantom Menace. We definitely need to see more of him. It's all getting a bit X-Men now with characters splitting off into their own movies Wolverine-style. More

20 Boba Fett, if I had to pick
I'd rather not know a thing about Fett's past but i guess he does have the most potential for a spin-off out of all of these characters. More
