This Recurring Sound Effect
In a recent TV interview, Spielberg reminisced that the death cries that accompany the death of the shark in Jaws were actually the death cries of the behemoth Godzilla. In fact, the sound effects came from another, more apt source - the roar of the Gil-Man from The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Spielberg had previously used the sound effect with equally powerful impact in Duel to appropriate the last rites of the truck.
