The Majesty Of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

It was meant to be a small, intimate film after the huge adventures of Indiana Jones. Instead it became one of the cinema's highest grossing films, created one of culture's most indelible icons and presented us with a vision that defined the term Spielbergian - to wit, E.T, and Elliott flying over the moon instantly became the logo of his company Amblin. But at its heart, E.T, The Extra-Terrestrial is a small intimate picture, fuelled by Spielberg's memories of his parents divorce and his desire to transcend suburban life. Beautifully acted, delicately assembled and with an emotional punch that can melt the hardest heart, E.T. remains Spielberg's most rounded, most complete masterpiece. It is, in every sense of the word, a classic.
