That He Kept Gizmo Alive

Without Spielberg's input, Gremlins might have been a very different movie indeed. It was the Spielberg's decision to keep the singing, furry Mogwai as, well, a singing, furry Mogwai. The original script had Gizmo suffering the same fate as his waddling buddies; namely a hideous transformation into one of those snarling, psychotic green things called Gremlins. But Spielberg saved Gizmo, giving the film its true hero. And as Christopher Lee's evil scientist affirms in the sequel: "Cute...isn't it?"
