That He Can Work In Different Styles

With the cast on the set of Munich.
Few filmmakers have a more recognisable directorial persona than Spielberg. We all think we know what a Spielberg movie is; aliens (check), kids (check), suburbia (check) etc. Which makes his output since Schindler's List all the more remarkable, consistently escaping what we would routinely think of as a Spielberg movie. From the hard-hitting thrills and political complexity of Munich to the slow, tableaux history lesson of Munich, from the film noir-ish sci-fi of Minority Report to the cerebral sci-fi of A.I., Spielberg has taken on a chameleon like persona, proving himself adept in completely different arenas. Even the blockbusters - The Lost World, War Of The Worlds - are miles away from the summer blockbusters he made in his thirties. As a filmmaker, Spielberg is growing and evolving and we love him for it.
