Casting Sean Connery In Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in The Last Crusade.
For Indy's third outing in 1989, Spielberg and Lucas not only wanted to up the ante on the action front, but take the audience a little deeper into the inner workings of the world's most famous archaeologist. The quest to reveal exactly what was lying beneath that hat, was set in motion by the introduction of another Holy Grail-seeking, hole -digger…Indy's father. After a series of character re-workings, Spielberg approached an actor, who's most famous role, had been a direct inspiration for the Indiana Jones series. Casting James Bond (aka Sean Connery) in The Last Crusade was a stroke of genius. As Jones Senior, Connery provided the perfect adventuring companion for Ford. Both book-worming academic and clumsy hero, Connery's performance is filled with enough comic bluster to make it Indy III's most celebrated feature and another perfect choice of actor from Spielberg.
