The Inspiration For This Shot

Inspiration can appear at the strangest times. Take Jurassic Park's most celebrated moment, for example. Stuck in traffic, listening to the bass shuddering grooves of the funktastic Earth, Wind And Fire, Spielberg noticed that everything inside his car was vibrating in time with the low frequency thuds. Skip forward to the set of Jurassic Park, throw a glass of water into the mix, replace 'Boogie Wonderland' with a striding T.Rex and voila! Interestingly, the trembling water effect proved to be one of the hardest shots to recreate for the camera. A plucking guitar string placed under the glass was eventually used to replicate Spielberg's original 'feel the funk' concept and the resulting ripples sent shudders down the spines of cinemagoers across the globe.
