His Respect For Cinema History

He has one of the original Rosebud sleds from Citizen Kane (1941) and over the last ten years, in a bid to curb cheap, commercial tricks, he has bought Clark Gable's It Happened One Night Oscar, and two statues won by Bette Davis (Dangerous, 1935 and Jezebel, 1938). Following the purchase of these key pieces of movie memorabilia, Spielberg immediately returned the shiny gold gongs back to their original home at the Academy. As a colossal film fan and a mindful collector of cinema history, the five year-old kid, bowelled over by The Greatest Show On Earth, still inhabits the director some fifty-five years later. It's this impassioned enthusiasm for the wonder of filmmaking through the decades, that continues to propel Spielberg to create new movie milestones.
