That He Refuses To Give Up Film

On the set of 2004's The Terminal.
Despite working at the bleeding edge of technology, Spielberg is still a respecter of history, giving his movies the unique feel of the modern and the traditional. In particular, his steadfast refusal to shoot and edit on digital formats, choosing instead to work on olde worlde film: "I love being able to have an actual byproduct of photochemistry in the room with me. I love the smell of it. I love being able to hold up the film and see actual frames. I love hearing the butt-splicer cut through the celluloid. I do everything else in the digital era, from the pre-viz to digital dinosaurs. But there are certain things I'm hanging on to tenaciously." His further argument - if film is good enough for Casablanca and Gone With The Wind and David Lean, it's good enough for him - works for us too.
