10 Singers Who Should Not Act
Don't give up the day job…

With the impending arrival of Rob Marshall's latest musical-turned-movie Nine, we'll get a look at the biggest role to date for Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson, who has been branching out for a while now from her job as front woman/singer for the Black Eyed Peas. A singer nabbing a part that requires her to be A) slinkily sexy and B) warble doesn't feel like much of a stretch, but at least it means there's less chance for face-palm-inspiring embarrassment. If only this lot had thought twice...

Britney Spears
Crossroads (2002)

What She Was Thinking: "This is awesome, y'alls! I'll play to my fan base with a story about a girl who dreams of becoming a performer, and has to head out on a road trip with some buddies to make her dreams come true! I hope everybody loves it to bits and I win an Oscar or something."

What Actually Happened: Yeah, not so much with the Oscar, though she did scoop a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress (which she shared with Madonna, who "won" for Swept Away). Oh, and she also got one for the song 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman' from the movie's soundtrack. She deserves some sort of award, however, for convincing anyone that she could act rationally once her fame exploded.

You really struggled with this article didn't you. It reeks of friday afternoon deadline half-arsedness. Maybe you should've gone for a top four instead, eh? Mocking Jones et al for ten word cameos is rather desperate. Sting did perfectly well in Dune, which you also innacurately assess. Read More

in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. OK, they're not really supposed to act but God that movie was bad.... Now the BEST performance by a singer in a motion picture? In recent times I can't think of a more fabulous performance than Levon Helm's as the blind old man in Tommy Lee Jones' Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada. Still brings a tear to my eye... Other singers have been constantly very good on screen : David Bowie, Cher (allegedly a better actor than singer), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Chris Isaak, Kris Kristofferson, Courtney Love (she CAN be very good when directed by Milos Forman), Iggy Pop, Elvis and of course... Twenty Odd Foot Of Grunts' Russell Crowe. Read More

I would put him in this list. Perfectly adequate for leering around and certainly not his fault that the ending is so insubstantial and hollow. Plus, he was great in Quadrophenia. Read More

I would say that Tom Wait's accent in Dracula (as estate-agent-turned-mental-bug-eating-wannbe-nosferatu Renfield) is one of the worst in movies ever but... That particular movie has the entire top 5 (Reeves, Hopkins, Ryder, Oldman & Waits). Read More

26 Tom Jones...
