The Sexiest Characters In Cinema - The Men
You voted, and here are the results of our poll
Forget George Clooney, pay no attention to Scarlett Johansson. This is about film characters, not film stars, and we asked you to decide on the most attractive fictional creatures of all time. We probably shouldn't have been surprised at the number of catsuit-wearers who turned up in the results (they just outnumber the bikini or tuxedo lovers) but you may be surprised by a few names here, both for how high (or low) certain heartthrobs place and who makes the cut. Read on to learn more, and even learn a few ace chat-up lines that are GUARANTEED to work if you ever meet these fictional characters...

    Mal Reynolds

Profession  Captain; smuggler; civil war veteran
    Played by  Nathan Fillion
    In  Serenity (2005)
There's a profound contradiction at the heart of Captain Reynolds' character. On one hand, he's your typical maverick, showing at best a casual attitude to criminal law and customs inspections. On the other hand, he offers unconditional loyalty and total responsibility in all matters concerning his crew. In other words, he's the bad boy with a heart of gold, which is basically all most women want. The fact that he can also rock those tight pants and futuristic space-gun is a mere bonus, and a more-than-passing resemblance to a certain H. Solo (keep reading) doesn't hurt either.
Moment of hotness  Any scene where he's wrangling with Inara, really. She may "fog things up" and "spin him about", as he claims, but it's kind of a joy to watch.
Ideal chat up line  "Fancy misbehaving?"
Any drawbacks?  You're never going to get him off that ship for any length of time, so get used to it. Also, you'll be expected to be fluent in Whedon-level banter to fit in with his mates.

    Have Your Say
Should Mal Reynolds be higher or off the list?

1 There are some straaange choices on this list
Absolute, all-time, number 1 until the end of time has GOT to be Wolverine, even if it does mean edging out Aragorn. Of all the Bonds, people are opting for Daniel Craig over Sean Connery??? I'm sorry, that man is quite homely. Honestly, I wouldn't have any of the Bonds on my list, nor Rick Blaine nor Rhett Butler, although I quite agree with Don Lockwood and Roger Thornhill's inclusion (could have been subbed with any of a number of characters played by Kelly and Grant, really). Seeing Gollum on the list amused me, but I want NO part of sparkly so-called vampires. Vampires are supposed to be more Goth, less Emo, thank you very much. The list of women made more sense over all. Read More

2 Who compiled this?! It wasn't the ladies....
Too many male geeks voting for what they think women should like or someone taking the pee. The men have a proper sexy list and we get bloody Gollum, Edward Cullen and Jack Dawson. My list (descending from 1) is: Mal Reynolds, Wolverine, Indiana Jones (Raiders), James Bond (Daniel Craig), Aragorn, Boromir, Maximus, Magneto (Fassbender), Vincent Corleone, Michael Corleone, Han Solo, Bud White, Legolas...... 3 Hmmmm some strange choices
Have to agree with a few on there, Aragorn, Mal Reynolds, Han Solo, Captain Jack, Rick Blaine, Tyler Durden, Thor and the Driver all get my vote. But Gollum? EDWARD CULLEN? Waste of space! I would have added The Dude (always had a strange obsession with Jeff Bridges), Marv from Sin City, Clooney in From Dusk Til Dawn, Al Pacino in the Godfather, Sirius Black, Ron Weasley and Hansel from Zoolander. EDWARD CULLEN? Who voted in this? 13 year old girls?! Read More

    5 whoa whoa whoa!
Some serious hits and misses there, not to mention some forgotten. Fassbender's Magneto undoubtedly, Patrick Bateman (i stopped caring about the psychotic-ness issue when he started doing stomach crunches and he was lathered up in the shower), Brandon Routh as Superman was pretty smoking and adorable too, Robbie Turner from Atonement (never before has a library been so steamy) and yeah Paul Newman as Butch Cassidy *swoon* those eyes. Captain Mal Reynolds is sex on a stick and must move up that list, probably too obscure for some :( watch it (and Firefly)!!! And I'm sorry, Gollum was a waste of a space, as was Sparkly Mr. Cullen yeuck! Read More

    7 What about Sebastian Valmont?
So, where is Cruel Intentions' Sebastian in this list? Come on, don't we all love bad boys gone good? I loved how he got from sex-obsessed asshole to thoughtful sweetheart because he fell in love with a goody-two-shoes! Oh and Superman, where is he? Come on: rescues you all the time, can take you for a city fly-over on a date, has the weight of the world on him, hot outfit... Yes please! And 10 things I hate about you's Patrick Verona? Bit of a bad boy, funny, romantic, very interesting... Just chuck Gollum and James Bond (who HASN'T that guy slept with??) out. And Batman, he can be such an ass sometimes. Read More

8 The guys get mostly contemporary hotties, yet we ladies are expected to make do with the long-dead from black and white films, and Gollum--GOLLUM??? If Gollum were female and looked the same, "she"d be nowhere on the list for men. What about Mark Strong as Lord Blackwood? Hell, what about Mark Strong in ANYTHING? At least Robert Downey Jr was on here, twice, and Hugh Jackman... Otherwise, very very slim pickings, here. Waste of my time. Read More

16 RE: Who made this list?
I have to say I agree with you, or at least in part. My take on it is that this list has been compiled by both men and women but resolutely film geek ones, which is unsurprising considering it's an Empire online poll. This isn't necessarily a criticism, I'm something of a film geek myself (female) and can see the attraction of a lot of the picks here (both modern ones like Thor and golden oldies like Don Lockwood). Having said that, if this list was compiled by any other forum, I'm pretty positive that 'ordinary' women would NEVER omit Johnny Castle from the list, nor Maverick for that matter... Read More

    23 Who made this list?
The list seems like it was assembled by heterosexual men. It reads more like a list of geeky guy idols then actual sex symbols. Sometimes they overlap (James Bond) and sometimes they don't (Aragorn). My biggest problem with online polls is that people never seem to care about what the actual subject of the poll is they just vote for their favorite (show, movie, character, or whatever representative). 33 Omissions
I seriously did a double take when I saw Gollum on this list. Freakin' trolls ruining it for everyone else. Replace him with Legolas and I'll be happy. He's so pretty *sigh* And I know a LOT of women find Jack Sparrow to be the ultimate sex god, but I have a spot reserved in my heart for another Johnny Depp character: Don Juan Demarco <3 He just oooozes sexiness every second he's on screen, he makes me melt. Of course there are people who are going to disagree with me. Some people find rugged men sexy, like Aragorn & Wolverine. Some people find suave & debonair sexy, like James Bond. I prefer the pretty & slightly feminine guys, like Legolas. *sigh* *blush* Read More

37 Please! This is *clearly* current movie centric and super hero centric
Folks- This is clearly current movie centric as lists go, and way too heaqvy with super heros. First Rhett Butler, Rick Blaine, and Roger Thornhill blow any of the modern actors listed out of the water. Second, why not try some of the following characters in addition; How about Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando) in Street Car Named Desire, Brandos character in "On The Waterfront", Terry Malloy. I could go on all day with other choices. How about Leslie Howard and the dashing Ashley Wilkes? Charlton Heston, as Judah Ben Hur? Please, the list goes on an on.... I like Super Heros. I own numerous Super Hero comic books, but please, comapred to the earlier heart throbs, no contest. In addition, please consider that Golum is approximately one of the farthest characters from "sexy". So you who decided on this list saw the Lord of the Rings. Aaragorn, and other characters, fine, there is a reasonable nature to that. But Gullum? You couldn't think of any Read More

    39 Solo for the Win
I can't fault Jack at No.2, but Viggo Mortensen has played much sexier characters than Aragorn. If we're going for real sexiness in this list, then it's Han Solo for the win. And f'r Chewie's sake, how'd Indy score higher than Han? And, hey, where's good ole Jareth? Too 80s? But, you know... it was hard to take this list seriously after seeing Gollum made it in. xD Somewhere out there, Dobby fans must be clamouring for a re-count! Read More

What 40 -plus man doesn't remember Han Solo's entrance in Star Wars! What seemed to unravel as an a-sexual Sci-Fi story suddenly got the swagger it lacked when Harrison Ford sat down with Luke and Ben in the Mos Eisley cantina! To me his prescence made the whole thing work! Nothing sexual, just a 'I-wanna-be-that -guy' kind of thing...not even Indiana Jones could top that, and it's the same guy!
