Lifeforce (1985)

Lifeforce

Who’s undressing? Chiefly Mathilda May’s alien.

Possible justification
She’s a space vampire! Her nudity lures her victims in close so she can extract their lifeforce and use it.

But seriously...
Earth vampires don’t need to be naked all the time; Dracula wears that big cape. Why are these alien types so nudey?

The scene makes perfect sense... Only the prudish would consider that they would sneak away into a private area to change into a spacesuit.. I don't get how this can be called a Gratuitous scene? More

All the Terminator movies? Even Salvation? Don't worry, I tend to forget about that one too. More

So i take it you didn't bother actually reading the article, just looking at the picture? Because in the 3rd picture, of Sean in Zardoz, SHE clearly says "The thing about women is we generally prefer to look at Sean Connery in a suit than in a loincloth and bandoleros" So, yeah, might wanna put your high horse back in its stable there More

4 Empire goes Nuts
from 16 scenes, 2 are men, 2 are mixed (4 total men and 14 total women). The article itself seems gratuitous given it's obviously written by (straight) men for (straight) men. Empire has been producing some shitty copy lately but this is just low. More

5 Alice Eve getting semi-nekkid...
...Is the least of that film's problems. She's half-dressed, the rest of the film is half-arsed. (See what I did? Believe me I wish that I hadn't. Then again I wish I hadn't watched the chuffing movie either.) Ripley's inclusion in this list is missing the point a little. A) She's about go to bed for ooh... 40 years (un-beknownst to her granted). She's hardly going to get much kip dressed in high-top trainers and a flight suit. B) It's the climactic scene of the whole movie and the protagonist is at her most vulnerable to ramp up the drama. If it was a bloke in his grundy's nobody would bat an eye. More

6 Some Are Saying More
Logan's Run makes sense as the scene in question is when they pick someone to have coitus with, so they would try to be alluring. Starship Troopers is obviously a comment on a lack of inhibitions in the future or possibly on gay people joining the military. More

Alice Eve's scene wasn't that bad. It was unnecessary, sure, but I think people are overreacting. More

9 RE: The Most Gratuitous Scenes In Sci-Fi
Fair point, but then I'd be surprised if the Star Trek scene actually did put any more 'bums on seats'. If you were looking for scantily clad women from your cinema experience you'd probably be more likely go for films like Piranha Double D or even Fast and Furious which has far more in the way of flesh. Anyone heading off to see Star Trek is hardly likely to be going in there for the abundance of bikini babes... More

Some people complain about a woman in underwear in Star Trek. (oh noes!)   Lindelof and Abrams apologise.   Everyone talks about underwear scene in Star Trek.   Lindelof and Abrams: $$$ More

12 Sex Sells
Well at the end of the day, it puts bums on seats (so to speak). I wonder how many people were convinced to go see the new Star Trek just because they saw a half naked Alice Eve in the trailer!! More

13 RE: The Most Gratuitous Scenes In Sci-Fi
In a have his cake and eat it kind of way. 20:20 hindsight might get him some nice publicity though but, as I said elsewhere, it's not like their treatment of women in the first women (the mother, wife, whore triptych) suggests this is out of place More

14 RE: The Most Gratuitous Scenes In Sci-Fi
Haven't seen Star Trek yet (not bothered about it, truth be told), but ] scene does sound weird and out of place. It's getting to a point where beautiful young actresses like Alice Eve can't get through a film without having to parade around in their undies. Abrams' "Maybe we edited that scene wrong" excuse is weak. At least Lindelof owned up to it. More

15 RE: The Most Gratuitous Scenes In Sci-Fi
Good feature though would have to disagree with the Species nudity being gratuitous (not that I mind a gratuitous shot of Natasha Henstridge of course) - the whole plot is about her desperately trying to reproduce and that scene is about her trying to seduce him in order to do it, so kind of intergral really. As opposed to say, Star Trek, where they're basically talking about the weather (or something else completely unrelated to her stripping). More

16 Couple of points
Verhoven was apparantly naked in the shower with them (pervert!) in Starship Troopers. Also Ripley is in her undies in Alien due to one of the horror movie golden rules. In monster movies / haunted houses, the girl is ALWAYS in her undies when being chased. It enhances their vulnerability. (hence why you never see the fat chic getting killed! ewwwwww!) More

17 RE: The Most Gratuitous Scenes In Sci-Fi
Whilst not totally revealing, I always thought the bit in Attack of the Clones where Natalie Portman loses half her top by it being literally "whipped off" her torso as a bit convenient. A ludicrous moment in an otherwise un-ludicrous film. More

18 RE: Very Sly
L: chrispdaniel What about Sylvester Stallone when he is cryogenically frozen/reanimated in Demolition Man and is butt naked? Pretty sure clothes would have frozen/thawed without much of a problem. ood call. I'm almost sure you can see Sly's balls at one point if you tilt your head awkwardly. Not that I'm particularly interested in seeing his balls of course. More

19 Stargate SG1 Pilot
I was just rewatching the SG1 pilot today, and I do not remember a complete nudity shot top and bottom of Sha're just before she's about to be implanted by a goa'uld, I definitly do not remember that shown on tv (directors cut me thinks or post watershed)...seriously is there something about alien possession and female nudity? if so stargate embraced it from the beginning More
