The Movies Of The Saturday Night Live Cast
Fred Armisen
The All-Rounder
Tenure He joined in 2002.
Best characters The incredibly versatile and always-game Armisen is perhaps best-known for being the show’s chosen Barack Obama impersonator. However, frankly, his Obama is not his strong suit (in fact, he was outshone on that front on a recent show by Dwayne Johnson). So let’s focus on his great impressions – a rapid-fire Martin Scorsese, Liberace – and his mixture of deadbeats and sleazeballs, including Nicholas Fehn, a bullseye spoof of rambling political stand-up comedians whose every thought trails off into inconsequential nothingness.
Where you’ve seen him Again, cameos have been his game – sadly, it seems that nobody is willing to take a punt on a Fred Armisen-headlined movie, even in an era where Rob Schneider can get movies made. But he’s been funny in the likes of Anchorman, Eurotrip and Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny. His multi-ethnic background has enabled him to play roles as diverse as Creepy Italian Guy in Eurotrip and Frenchman in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.
Coming up A gig as ‘host’ on the Alexis Bledel comedy, Post-Grad.
The Next…? Harry Shearer: someone who can make a very nice living out of character comedy and voice work.
