The Movies Of The Saturday Night Live Cast
Kristen Wiig
The Goddess
Tenure Wiig is another 2005 SNL debutante. An incredibly gifted and versatile comedienne, with an endless array of oddball characters, Wiig is possibly the most talented member of the current cast – and, refreshingly, the only one who tries to avoid reading lines off cue cards.
Best characters Where to start? There’s her compulsive liar, Penelope, the astonishing machine-gun delivery of Judy Grimes, a deer-in-the-headlights travel writer on Weekend Update, and the demented stylings of the Target checkout lady. And that’s not even counting her impressions, including a spot-on Bjork and Kathie Lee Gifford. Why she’s not a Tina Fey-esque megastar is beyond us.
Where you’ve seen her So far her movie career has been very low-key, with notable and largely deadpan cameos in the likes of Adventureland, Knocked Up and Ghost Town. Seems like Hollywood is finally cottoning on to her unique energy, though, for…
Coming up? She’s working on seven – count ‘em, seven! – films, including Pegg/Frost’s Paul, Date Night, with Tina Fey and Steve Carell, and Extract, the new Mike Judge comedy with the wonderful Jason Bateman.
The Next…? To say the next Tina Fey would be to pigeonhole Wiig just because she happens to be a woman. If anything, she’s got the potential to be the female Will Ferrell.
