Space Age Side-Kicks R2-D2 Star Wars
Few would argue that R2 is the ultimate robot sidekick. In fact, you suspect that if the little astromech droid had been running the Rebel Alliance instead of Ackbar and the team, the Empire would have been defeated in time for tea and WD-40. The importance of the faithful droid to the Alliance is demonstrated from the beginning of A New Hope, when it takes Obi-Wan news both of Leia's kidnapping and the construction of the Death Star. Its long-suffering nature is similarly demonstrated when it abstains from abandoning the bleating C-3P0 in the Tatooine desert. With an inbuilt projector, innumerable handy gadgets, steely resourcefulness and no doubt several million built-in iPhone apps, R2 is a robot for every occasion.
