March of the Penguins (2005)
While it's arguably overly sentimental and prone to credit penguins with all sorts of human motives, this beautifully-shot and occasionally wrenching documentary was a stunning look at the harsh realities of a far-off world, looking at a year in the life of the Emperor Penguin. Oh, and the endless close-ups of adorable baby penguins were irresistible.
