Joe Wright - and indeed Keira Knightly - lived up to Pride & Prejudice's promise with this tragic Ian McEwan adaptation. Worthy of inclusion in the list for that bravura tracking shot of Dunkirk alone.

Best Bit: The agonising confrontation between Robbie (James McAvoy), Cecilia (Knightley) and Briony (Romola Garai).
