Alejandro González Iñárritu's latest offered up a sprawling, complex plot, not to mention an astonishing turn from a greyed-up Brad Pitt. It wasn't for everyone, but it was the rare film that had something important to say but didn't shout about it.

Best Bit: Deaf Japanese schoolgirl Chieko's (Rinko Kikuchi) entrance into the nightclub.
