10 Recast Movie Characters | Jim Rhodes 10 Recast Movie Characters
Jim Rhodes

Originated by: Terrence Howard, Iron Man (2007)
Recast with: Don Cheadle, Iron Man 2 (2010)

Comic-Con afforded us all our first glimpse of the new Jim 'Rhodey' Rhodes, Tony Stark's best friend and confidant, in action: literally in action. The disgruntled Rhodes, aghast at seeing his old mucker flaunting his state-of-the-art armour in the face of the military, buys some armour of his own on the black market, becoming the fan-favourite character, War Machine, in the process.

We say the 'new Jim Rhodes' because - rather famously, as it turned out - Don Cheadle was drafted in by Marvel and director Jon Favreau to replace Terrence Howard, who played Rhodey in the original Iron Man. Howard, who was apparently the highest-paid member of the first movie's cast, was dropped after a dispute about pay for the second movie. But in Cheadle, Iron Man 2 has a more-than-adequate replacement. After all, as Steven Soderbergh once said, "If you can put Don Cheadle in your movie, put Don Cheadle in your movie." Advice that Favs has followed to the letter.

Ya got a picture of Ash kissing Angela Featherstone up there! As you say, it was Bridget Fonda in that movie. That's not Linda or Fonda in that pic. You've recast her again! Read More

I have a slightly less catchy motto. If you're gonna cast someone with an English accent, cast someone who can DO an English accent. Read More

After all these years, do you really think a 'non official' Bond movie does not count just because the producers were a bunch of different guys than the ones that made they first films? Sean Connery is in it, I believe that makes the film and Bernie Casey 'official' enough. Read More

16 Potter Recasts
Posted on Thursday July 30, 2009, 15:33 by Old_Pyrate
Leaving aside Dumbledore, there's plenty of Potter bit parts that were recast when their respective character's got lines later in the series. Cedric Diggory briefly seen during the rain lashed Quidditch Match in Potter 3 went onto to be played by "The Pattz" in Potter 4 Angelina Johnson was recast somewhere between Potter 2 and Potter 4 Lavender Brown gets a screen credit in earlier Potter films and is now played by the wonderfully psycotic Jessica Cave in Potter 6 Voldemort himself has been played by a number of different actors - He is approximately the same age when seen as Tom Riddle in the Potter 2 and Potter 6 flashbacks but is played by different actors. And of course when he appears on the back of Ian Hart's head in Potter 1, is most definitely not being played by Ralph Fiennes who has had the role since Potter 4 Through all this chopping and changing of minor roles, you have to applaud Bonnie Wright who has hung onto the role of Ginny from her single line iRead More

Yeah, I thought it was slightly odd that John Connor was mentioned in the Felix description, but didn't get an entry himself - and don't forget whoever played the "Scarred John" in the T2 flash-forward, the very same scars he gets at the end of Salvation... ooo, clever McG. I'm not sure Dumbledore really counts, as it wasn't exactly the studio's choice to have Richard Harris die. El Mariachi is a good shout though. Read More

22 EVIL DEAD
Posted on Wednesday July 29, 2009, 22:17 by presidentcletus
Hold on! That's Ellen Sandweiss! Every Evil Dead fan (or Evil Deadite) knows that she played Cheryl, the unfortunate lass who gets penetrated by trees. But you almost got it right. Linda was played by Betsy Baker, nevertheless, the caption is confusing. I'd go for a screenshot of Ash beating the crap out of her, while she's giggling like Pee-Wee Herman on acid. I believe congratulations are judicious... Read More

Posted on Wednesday July 29, 2009, 16:41 by Padman_UK
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3e/Jennifer1 %262.png Looks like messing around in the past can transform your girlfriend's face! But seriously, I love how much effort went into trying to re-film that carefully. Even Marty's shirt is tucked the same way! It's just a shame that when you see his face he's aged 3 years from "suspiciously old looking 18 year old" to "now come on, you're just getting silly now!", haha. "You were here yesterday, Marty, you were!" - I'm not sure I believe you, Doc. Read More
