The 10 Memorable Moments Of Oscars 2013 | 4. Shark Gate
4. Shark Gate

Instead of a standard piece of music to play off those who dared take a little longer on their speech – correction, those who were not big names – the producers of this year’s show thought it might be fun to use John Williams’ Jaws theme. Funny idea in principle, but it turned sour when Life Of Pi visual effects winners Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan De Boer and Donald R. Elliott tried to give some support to the artists struggling at bankrupt FX house Rhythm & Hues and were not only Jaws’d, but had their microphone silenced. Not cool, Academy, especially when Quentin Tarantino got to survive a musical mauling.

I can't believe you didn't include Dame Shirley Bassey on this list. At 76 years old she put all the other performers to shame with Goldfinger. More

Everyone keeps saying Tarantino was being played off, we all thought he had fooled the orchestra by pausing for applause for the cast. If you listen they're playing the "winner walking triumphantly off the stage" music as opposed to the "get off the stage or we'll set this giant plastic shark on you" cue. More

You gotta love the bit where Tarantino was about to get played off, and he just shot to the side "I'm coming, I'm coming!" then continued with his speech. More

Jack Nicholson looked bored out of his mind at the Oscars. When everyone did a standing ovation, Jack grudgingly got to his feet...and looked bored. Sad to see his spark has gone. More
