2013 Oscar Nominees Profiled: Best Supporting Actress | Jacki Weaver
Jacki Weaver

Film: Silver Linings Playbook

Why She Will Win

1  The film has a lot of love, and four Acting nominations is surely a sign that at least one or two will deliver.
2 Weaver was previously nominated for her magnificent turn in Animal Kingdom, and having lost out to Melissa Leo for The Fighter, is perhaps due some compensation.
3 Weaver provides the steadiest and emotionally-centred role in the film, which allows everyone else to go a little off the rails.

 Why She Won't Win

1  Does it feel a little like Weaver’s there just to round out the Silver Linings gang? Her part is not the most memorable of the film.
2 For the most part in awards season, Weaver hasn’t even had an individual nomination, just a nod as part of the Silver Linings gang.
3 If she didn’t win for her barnstorming turn in Animal Kingdom, what chance does she have in this quieter turn?

1 Sally Field
Wasn't Sally Field's awkward speech given after her second win? In fact wasn't that sort of the point of it... "this time I feel you like me" etc etc? More
