2013 Oscar Nominees Profiled: Best Actor | Bradley Cooper
Bradley Cooper

Film: Silver Linings Playbook

Why He Will Win

1  It’s a charismatic central performance as a bipolar sufferer, and one that’s a big step outside Cooper’s usual wheelhouse.
2 With four acting nominations for the film, the Academy’s thespian members appear to love the movie – which should bode well for Cooper.
3 He’s a newly-minted A-lister, and the Oscars do have a history of rewarding such figures (albeit mostly in the Actress category).

 Why He Won't Win

1  He’s a bit too young: most Best Actor winners are comfortably north of 40, and you can be sure that if Cooper wins for this, DiCaprio’s going to be sitting at home feeling very hard done-by.
2 He’s still best known as “that guy from The Hangover” and probably has a few more respectable indie movies standing between him and a win.
3 Daniel Day-Lewis.
