Oscar Nominees 2012: Best Supporting Actor | Jonah Hill (Moneyball)
Jonah Hill (Moneyball)

Why He Will Win

There’s no ‘most improved’ category, so this would be the next best thing for a man who’s suddenly shed a bunch of kilos and gained serious acting chops.
Although he was good in Cyrus, Hill has surprised a much more wider audience with a quietly commanding dramatic turn in the much-admired Moneyball.
Having Aaron Sorkin’s dialogue to speak automatically elevates any performance. It could turn a good one into an award winner.

 Why He Won't Win

The category usually goes to a seasoned actor – don’t forget Christian Bale had been on screen for 25 years before he won for The Fighter – and the perception may be that Hill is too young and too green to win.
As good as he is as Yale brainiac Peter Brand in the movie, there’s a shortage of the kind of grandstand scenes that tend to capture the thoughts of Academy voters.
His previous filmography might count against him. He’s “the Iron Chef of pounding vag”.
