Oscar Nominees 2012: Best Original Screenplay | Bridesmaids (Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo)
Bridesmaids (Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo)

Why They Will Win

The film tells an identifiable and real story, complete with flawed heroine and complex emotional issues. Also, it’s well funny.
Original Screenplay is about the one Oscar category where comedy is in with a chance. This is one of only two nominees this year also up for a Writers Guild award.
It did well at the box-office and would make the Academy look hip to the kids if they voted for it.

 Why They Won't Win

Many people considered Wiig’s character simply unsympathetic, and there’s a question how much improv was involved.
Outright comedy, as opposed to indie comedy (Juno, Little Miss Sunshine) rarely wins.
There’s a gross-out vomiting / diarrhoea scene. NOT very Oscar.
