Why She Will Win

  She’s a previous nominee in the Supporting category for her brief but blinding turn in Doubt, so she has form, and she was heartbreakingly good in The Help. Also, she dowdies down significantly from her usual gorgeous self, which is generally a help in winning.
  She has already won quite a few plaudits for the role, notably the Screen Actor’s Guild prize for Best Actress. Since the largest voting block at the Oscars is comprised of SAG members, that could be a sign.
  She’s George Clooney’s BFF, and therefore we assume his magical aura will assure her win.

 


 

 Why She Won't Win

  It’s really up for debate whether this is a leading role; it’s arguably a two-hander with Emma Stone.
  In recent years, the Best Actress prize has usually gone to someone playing a real person – and while The Help may look like a true story, it ain’t.
  She’s not an A-lister, and recently the Best Actress prize has generally gone to an A-lister. Or Hilary Swank.
