Movie Stars Who Sing
William Shatner
Albums: The Transformed Man - William Shatner

To say that he 'sings' might be a stretch, but no list of musically gifted actors would be complete without mentioning the Captain of the Starship Enterprise's dulcet tones. Talking (and pausing) and continuing to talk through more talented artists' material, Shatner has managed to place his unique stamp on Elton John, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Pulp, The Beatles as well as his own work ('It Hasn't Happened Yet') over the years. He's also collaborated with Ben Folds, mixing Shatner's whispering vocals with Folds' piano pop chords, and boasting lyrics such as "At puberty I was sworn to secrecy / By the international brotherhood / Of lying fickle males". William, we salute you. Oh, and here's the Shat rapping about Julius Caesar. Almost forgot.

The critics' choice? "This CD is beyond good or bad. It is from a world where concepts such as "unique" and "indispensible" live happily alongside "hilariously, brain-tearingly wrong"." The Guardian

I found John Travolta's album years ago, but it went when my house was burgled. I hope one day to catch that burglar and sentence them to 25 years listening to the album non-stop. Here's one track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7fXpA3aouU Read More

I think you've got Lopez the wrong way round - she had an acting career before she started singing. And her best acting role came before her debut album.   I acknowledge I should probably put both of those in quote marks. Read More

25 RE: Mmm.
Posted on Thursday September 3, 2009, 09:10 by xClaudiax
I'm guessing the focus was loosely on people better known for acting than singing, so Jennifer Lopez and Mandy Moore probably crossed over in the wrong direction. Juliette Lewis, Christopher Lee and Will Smith probably should've been included though.  Also, did Keanu Reeves sing in his role as bassist? Because if not then you open up a whole other list of actor/band members, Johnny Depp for one. Read More

30 seconds to Mars did do a good album but my sister loves them more than I do (hint hint, Jared Leto) and my mum loves Russell Crowe's band. I'm not sure how Joaquin Phoenix is gonna do his rap career, will it be a flop or a major success? There is some missing artists on here like Phantom Of The Opera, there were plently of actors and actresses singing in that movie! Read More

The Scarlett Johansson album, thought it was superb. I can't wait for her collaboration with Pete Yorn. She & Him are great, as is Jeff Bridges and Milla Jovovich, but you forgot Mos Def! I don't normally like rap/hip-hop music (actually I hate it) but he is truly brilliant and brings a raw energy to his work. I actually think the music on his latest album The Ecstatic, is better than most of his acting. Read More

30 Seconds to Mars are awful beyond words. Scarlet Johannson... while her album of covers wasn't up to much, I do have a liking for her duet with Pete Yorn ('Relator'). And if anyone can watch the Shat's version of Rocketman without thinking Family Guy, you're made of stronger stuff than I. Read More
