Ellen Ripley | Alien Resurrection | Sigourney Weaver
The 20 Greatest Movie Resurrections
Ellen Ripley
(Sigourney Weaver, Alien Resurrection)

How did she die? Realising she was impregnated with an alien, Ripley sacrificed herself at the end of Alien3 by lowering herself into a vat of molten lead, which was then fast-cooled so it would explode.

What brings her back? A stray cell was enough to allow nefarious scientists to clone her, a cell which incidentally came with a whole heap of vestigal memories, but her DNA was mixed with that of an alien making her a weird hybrid.

Was it worth it? She wasn't too happy about the whole thing, what with the trying-to-end-the-alien-plague thing. But on the bright side she managed to once again fight off an outbreak of the big ol' xenomorphs.
