After his beloved Claudia (Kirsten Dunst) is killed by French vampires jealous of his relationship with their leader, Armand (Antonio Banderas), Louis (Brad Pitt) is pissed. Revenge on his mind, Louis abandons the eye-for-an-eye formula and takes about a hundred eyes instead, dousing the sleeping vampires in petrol and setting them ablaze, then lopping off the heads of any survivors with a handy scythe. Then along comes his arch-enemy, Stephen Rea’s snarling Santiago, and the stage is set for a showdown between the vastly more experienced and quicker Spanish vampire… and the guy with a scythe. The guy with a scythe, funnily enough, wins, slicing Santiago neatly in two with one mighty swipe. Effective enough to make Van Helsing reconsider his methods.
