Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) is in the tightest of tight spots in the opening scene of The Matrix - but while anyone else would be a mite panicked to find themselves alone and facing an army of agents, for Trinity it’s just another opportunity to open a serious can of whoop-ass. She dispenses with three policemen-slash-potential-agents in short order, in a blizzard of chop-sockery. Like a shit-kicking Donald O'Connor in Singing in the Rain, she runs up the wall to evade the bullets of one cop, before turning his gun on another. It’s the balletic, bullet-time crane kick that takes our breath away though: hanging in the air like a mantis gone batshit, Trinity sends a copper flying across the room, and launches a thousand parodies in the process.
