Moments after Huron hardcase Magua (Wes Studi) kills his son and sends the body tumbling over a cliff, Chingachgook (Russell Means), the last of the Mohawk people, vents his paternal fury. Charging the Huron chieftan, Chingachgook dives under a tomahawk swing and brings his own weapon (a viscous curve of sharpened metal) around to take Magua in the back. He parries a retaliatory swipe with his blade, cutting into Magua’s bare elbow, hacks into both arms to prevent any further bother and pauses for a moment to stare his victim in the eye before running him through with the weapon’s barb. Flawless victory.
