The story of this legendary finishing move has been told countless times: how Steven Spielberg had storyboarded an elaborate fight between Harrison Ford’s Indy and a brick-shithouse Arab swordsman; how everybody came down with the shits, forcing an indelible improvisation. But it’s still a classic moment – Indy, desperately looking for the kidnapped Marion, sighs in exasperation when the crowded Cairo street suddenly clears to reveal said swordsman, swinging his massive weapon about with what should be daunting speed and grace. Indy, though, with a ‘too old for this shit’ grimace, simply pulls out his gun and shoots the bastard. Hardly fair, but genius nonetheless. Thank you, dystentery!
