It's oft-imitated, and much-mocked, but there’s no denying the power of 300's most iconic moment. Incensed by the presumptuous, condescending tones of Peter Mensah’s Persian messenger, King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) hits upon a simple solution: bark "This! Is! Sparta!" at him, and kick him down the conveniently placed well. It’s this moment, perhaps more than any other, that made Gerry Butler a star, thanks to the magnificent, wild-eyed conviction with which he yells the key phrase in his rough Glaswegian accent. Butler won’t repeat the phrase when asked by media outlets, in case it gets very old, very quickly – but he did make one very special exception.
